Summary

The Clinical Optometrist is responsible for delivering comprehensive eye care within a fast-paced ophthalmology practice. This role provides routine and medical optometric services, supports co-management of surgical patients, and contributes to practice growth through high-quality patient care and specialty service development. The Optometrist works collaboratively with the Physician/Owner and clinical team to ensure excellent clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive eye examinations, including refractions and medical eye evaluations
• Diagnose and manage ocular conditions such as dry eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and ocular surface disease
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for surgical patients (e.g., cataract, refractive, and other procedures)
• Develop and manage treatment plans in alignment with practice protocols and physician guidance
• Utilize and interpret diagnostic testing, including OCT, visual fields, fundus photography, and other ophthalmic imaging
• Document all findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Educate patients on diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive eye care in a clear and compassionate manner
• Support and expand specialty services, particularly in dry eye management and/or ocular aesthetics
• Identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and practice growth through clinical excellence and service development
• Collaborate closely with the Physician/Owner and clinical team to ensure continuity and quality of care
• Maintain efficient patient flow while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care
• Participate in clinical protocols, quality initiatives, and workflow improvements
• Adhere to HIPAA regulations, safety standards, and infection control policies
• Stay current with advancements in optometry and ophthalmology through continuing education

Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited program
• Active and unrestricted state licensure to practice optometry
• Experience in a medical/ophthalmology setting preferred
• Interest or experience in dry eye management and/or ocular aesthetics strongly preferred
• Strong clinical, diagnostic, and communication skills
• Spanish speaking preferred
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care
